Federico Protto
Costume Designer/ Outside Eye
Federico Protto (DE/URG) encompasses performance, sound, installation, and research, bringing together diverse disciplines in “dynamic installations.” Fascinated by migration narratives and global movements, he weaves together myths, ancestral ideas, and fiction to create a hybrid network that fosters decolonial and intercontinental kinship. In “Dress-Rehearsals” (2022), a proto-esoteric performance, he collectively explores heritage, activating texts, songs, dances, and more through instinct and spontaneity. By embracing ethnoecological, queer, and subcultural influences, my multidisciplinary approach challenges the conventions of the Global North. In collaboration with partners such as Stefan Cantante and Anna Lugmeier, his work finds international resonance at institutions such as DeSingel and the MOMU Fashion Museum (BE), Red Dawns Festival (LSV), Centro Cultural de España (UY), Hošek Contemporary Gallery (DE), ModaLisboa (PT), Weltmuseum Wien (AT), wpZimmer and the BUDA arts centre (BE).
